COOKING CLASSES
Tues. June 23rd
Thai Cuisine
We’ll start by making curry pastes and move from there to a wide range of
familiar and not-so-familiar Thai dishes.
Tues. July 7th
Greek Cuisine
Perfect for summer--meze (small dishes similar to tapas), spanakopita (savory or stuffed phyllo dough), tabbouleh and fish, vegetable or meat entrées flavored with the distinctive Greek mix of spices, herbs and olive oil.
Tues. July 14th
Vegetables and the Slow Food Movement
Leon Bistro is becoming known for its vibrant, fresh, vegetable sides and entrées. We'll show you how to cook them to preserve their flavor and food value. We'll make a number of vegetable dishes that you can easily do at home. We'll also touch on the new Slow Food Movement that has become closely associated with Alice Waters, one of my mentors. Slow food is all about using natural and organic ingredients from local producers. It's something that we should think about because of the excellent producers of vegetables, fruits, rice, cheese, olive oil and other foods in our immediate area.
Tues. July 21st
All About Pastry
Have you been tempted to make croissant dough or puff pastry—
or just to use the phyllo sheets that are available in the stores?
How about Danish pastry—would you like to make your own bear claws and other favorite pastries? In the class we’ll explore a range of sweet and savory items that you can add to your culinary repertoire.
Tues. July 28th
Mexican Cooking
Authentic Mexican dishes that you very rarely get an opportunity to taste, let alone learn to cook. We'll sample several variations of the chocolate-touched mole sauce and many other dishes.
Classes are from 6:30 to 9:00 pm
Price: $65/person and $120/couple Classes are limited to 15 people or less. We will eat what we cook, and enjoy wines and other beverages. Everyone will recieve recipes and a Leon Bistro apron.

The LEON BISTRO on Main Street is a place where Chicoans and visitors can enjoy delicious food in a relaxing and gracious atmosphere. The restaurant is warm, elegant and spacious, and the service is attentive and professional. The entrées include hearty steaks and chops, fresh fish perfectly cooked, chicken and a wide assortment of well-prepared and seasoned vegetables and fruits. The food reflects the extensive experience and palette of its chef, Ann Leon, who in the last twenty years has pleased diners in the San Francisco Bay Area and the Chico area with distinctive and tasty food.
LEON BISTRO is the latest fine dining restaurant to operate at 817 Main Street and some may remember when the building housed Jedidiah’s or JP’s, both excellent restaurants that successfully offered their fare at this location. Now with LEON BISTRO, the neighborhood gains a restaurant that emphasizes California-bistro cuisine—familiar foods prepared with skill and verve, and incorporating interesting tastes of other cultures and cuisines.
Some of the specialties on the menu are:
-
Crab cakes served with avocado cream and spicy mango coulis.
-
Sliced Portabello mushroom fritters served with a lemon aioli and fresh herb vinaigrette.
-
Bacon-wrapped Black Angus filet mignon served with buttermilk garlic mashed potatoes, sautéed vegetables and a wild mushroom demi-glace.
-
Asian chicken salad made with cabbage, carrots, red Bell peppers, avocado, sesame seeds, cucumber and candied almonds, and topped with grilled chicken and Asian vinaigrette.
-
Burger Leon ½ Ib. Black Angus beef, grilled onions, crispy-fried cheddar slice, lettuce, tomato, pickle & BBQ sauce.
We also serve Sierra Nevada and other beers on tap, and a fine selection of California wines.
